Organic Planting Certificate

While developing organic textile standards, high ecological and social requirements as well as applicability and verifiability criteria are taken into consideration worldwide. These standards are worldwide textile standards for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, to ensure independent certification of the entire textile supply chain in the textile sector.

The purpose of organic textile standards is to define worldwide accepted requirements that prove the organic status of textile, from the collection of raw materials to environmental and socially responsible production and labeling, to provide assurance to end consumers. Textile companies and manufacturers can easily market organic fabrics and garments together with a document that is accepted all over the world. Because these standards cover the processing, production, packaging, labeling, distribution and trade of all textile products obtained from certified organic natural fibers. The final products may include, but are not limited to, fiber products, yarns, fabrics, garments, and home textile products. There are other standards for leather products.

The main criteria for fiber production are based on organic certification of fibers on the basis of recognized international or national standards. In this respect,

  • IFOAM, International Federation of Ecological Agriculture Movements standards

  • EEC 834 / 2007 European Union New Organic Directive, and

  • USDA NOP is based on the US Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program.

Environmental criteria in organic textile standards are generally:

  • When processing organic fiber products, they must be distinguished from traditional fiber products at each stage and clearly identified.

  • All chemical inputs, such as dyes, excipients and other chemicals, must be evaluated and meet the essential requirements for toxicity and biodegradability and elimination.

  • The use of critical inputs such as toxic heavy metals, aromatic solvents, functional nanoparticles, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their enzymes and formaldehyde should be prohibited.

  • The use of synthetic sizing agents should be limited.

  • Bleaches should not be chlorinated bleach and should withstand oxygen.

  • Azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds should not be used.

  • Printing methods with aromatic solvents or printing methods with phthalate and PVC should not be applied.

  • For example, PVC, nickel or chrome should not be used in accessories.

  • Businesses should have an environmental policy related to their goals and flocks to minimize waste.

  • Wet processing units should keep records of the use of chemicals, including sludge disposal, energy, water consumption and wastewater treatment.

  • Wastewater from all wet treatment units must be treated in a functional wastewater treatment plant.

  • Packaging materials should not contain PVC.

Organic textile products must also meet technical quality parameters. For example, friction, perspiration, light fastness, wash fastness and shrinkage values. The raw materials, intermediates, final textile products and accessories used are subject to strict restrictions on unwanted residues.

As for the social criteria. In organic textile production, enterprises must comply with social criteria based on the basic norms set by the International Labor Organization (ILO). Businesses should have a social compliance management to ensure that social criteria are met. In this respect, enterprises are obliged to comply with all legal regulations concerning the selection of workers, the freedom of association of workers and collective bargaining agreements, the safe and hygienic working conditions, the use of child labor, the protection of wages, acceptable working hours, non-discrimination, regular employment and harsh or inhuman treatment. must comply with regulations.

In general, an enterprise participating in the organic textile certification program is required to operate in accordance with all the criteria of the relevant standards. To verify this, certification bodies apply a method of on-site inspection and laboratory testing.

The organic sewing certification program actually covers the entire textile supply chain. Namely,

  • Fiber producers, ie farmers, must be certified according to an international or national standard of organic farming that is accepted in the country where the final product will be sold.

  • Organizations that certify fiber manufacturers should be recognized internationally with the following accreditations:

    • According to ISO / IEC 17065 standard (Conformity assessment - Requirements for organizations that certify product, process and service)

    • NOP, National Organic Program

    • IFOAM, International Federation of Ecological Agriculture Movements

  • Firms from post-harvest handling to garment production should undergo an annual inspection cycle on-site and have a valid organic sewing certificate for the production and trade of textile products to be certified.

  • The solid limit values for unwanted wastes must comply with the relevant standards.

  • Residue tests should be performed according to the contamination risk assessment.

  • Additional samples may be taken by the auditors and sent to laboratories accredited according to the ISO 17025 standard for analysis.

Chemical inputs used by textile enterprises must meet the relevant standard criteria. Accordingly, manufacturers and suppliers of dyes, pigments and auxiliary agents should be inspected for compliance with standards. Certain procedures have been developed to enable certification bodies to use recognized chemical inputs such as dyes, pressures and auxiliaries.

Suppliers of chemical inputs should have a material safety data sheet prepared in accordance with one of the following standards or directives, containing appropriate information on the accepted standard criteria for evaluation:

  • ANSI Z400.1 Hazardous workplace chemicals - Hazard assessment and safety data sheet and precaution labeling

  • ISO 11014-1 Safety data sheet for chemical products - Section 1: Index of ingredients and contents

  • New REACH regulation 1907 / 2006 (duties for manufacturers, importers and suppliers)

  • 2001 / 58 / EC directive and material safety data sheet

  • GHS, Globally Harmonized System (classification, labeling and packaging rules for the safe use of highly used chemicals in daily life)

Textile enterprises can apply to certification bodies to obtain organic sewing certificate according to appropriate standards. It is a primary requirement that businesses that wish to obtain certificates apply relevant standards. The second condition is to pass the inspections and laboratory tests as required.

In general, certification is carried out under the following three headings:

  • Certification of mechanical textile processing and production processes and textile products

  • Certification of wet processing and finishing processes and products

  • Certification of commercial transactions and related products

The applicability of certification programs starts with the first process step in the textile supply chain. This first step is ginning in the cotton supply chain and scrubbing in the wool supply chain. The organic sewing certificate is based on the quality assurance system, on-site inspection and certification of the textile processing and trade chain. In general, an enterprise participating in the certification program is required to operate in accordance with all criteria of the standard. Certification bodies mainly use review methods that include, but are not limited to, the following key elements:

  • Evaluation of processing and storage system by visiting related facilities

  • Evaluation of separation and identification system

  • Determination of risky areas in terms of organic integrity

  • Examination of the compatibility of chemical inputs such as paints and auxiliaries and accessories used with applicable criteria

  • Investigation and evaluation of the performance of the waste water treatment system of wet processors

  • Control of social criteria

  • Potential contamination and residue testing, including sampling for residue testing, by random sampling or if contamination is suspected or non-compliant
