Combating Ecological Destruction

History, which includes all of the past times, nature and every living thing that infiltrates life, contains everything that comes to mind shortly to the feeding, the species that are about to be extinct, the wars, the politics and the economy. The societies, which started with megolamanism and covered the self-centered approach, disrupted the natural balance even in ecological terms by ignoring the principles of domination and destruction. Throughout history, the world's population, aiming only to benefit from nature, has finally realized the ecological crisis and started the struggle against itself.

However, there are societies that have not yet reached the level of awareness. The ecological destruction and defense in the presence of both sides make the situation a vicious circle.

As a result of government policies, natural beauties that have been transformed into tourism regions, plateaus used in road construction, environments with streams changed for energy use, difficulties in establishing nuclear power plants and mine accidents only cover a few negative situations. Increasing unemployment rates as a result of increasing industrialization, falling economic incomes as a result of expensive life, and a variety of problems increased with migration are the clearest indication that words cannot suffice to explain ecological destruction.

After the first awareness raising, the ecological sensitivity, which is viewed through the eyes of environmental science and manifests in a narrow field such as enumerating environmental protection methods, finally rises towards the necessity of long-term struggle. Furthermore, when the results of economic, political and social differences between Haiti and the Dominican Republic are examined, it is clearly seen what causes the mis-determination of the policies including conservation of natural water resources, air pollution and afforestation of the countries. The lack or inaccuracy of ecological steps leads to political impotence and social collapse. Of these countries on the same island, the Dominican Republic has 28 percent woodland while Haiti's forests cover 1 percent.

Although this seems to be one of the consequences of Haiti's past colony, illegal foresters were slaughtered in the Dominican Republic and forest slums were forced to evacuate. Environmental policies strictly restricted by Balaguer, who is known as the cruel dictator, seem to have saved the Dominican Republic from being like Haiti. The fact that Haiti is a country with the highest prevalence of some diseases in the fight against corruption is indicated for the destruction of agricultural practices, pollution of water resources and high levels of air pollution. As a result of these situations, many citizens emigrate to the Dominican Republic and work at low wages for heavy work. This will eventually bring about political and social collapse after ecological destruction.

It should be noted that healthy ecosystems are a right. As a result of the violation, penal sanctions should be applied and environment friendly technologies and sustainable development policies should be emphasized. Deteriorations in ecological environments should be eliminated and measures should be taken to prevent problems such as global warming, hunger and pollution. In these days when biodiversity is decreasing, climate change and health is becoming more and more threatened; large organizations must put an end to the destruction of nature caused by excessive methods.

The ecological crisis is a global problem with an international dimension that concerns the whole world. Therefore, international cooperation is needed. Legal requirements that are compatible with ecological facts are some of the requirements.

In addition, production must be carried out in accordance with ISO14001 standard. The principles of tripartite responsibility announced by the World Chemical Industry as a voluntary action plan should be adopted. Energy saving practices should be supported and studied. Recycling in waste management should be carried out in accordance with recycling options. The importance of organic production and agricultural practices should be raised and related trainings should be given.

In our country, where urgent steps are taken towards alternative energy sources and serious steps are taken, the aim is to provide the highest benefit with the least harm to nature and to become conscious.
