Environmental Label

The environment label, a system established by the EU Council of Ministers, is a voluntary practice and has a flower symbol on its emblem. The environment label can be given for many products as well as for the service sector. The Eco Label system, which was put into practice in 1992, is being implemented in a licensed manner until the 2010 year for full 1152 service and product. The Environment Label, which is given for environmentally friendly products and services, covers a wide range today and continuously includes new products.

The sale of products with the Environmental Label is easier in the international arena. Eko Etiket application has international validity and it is possible to market products with this label in European Union countries. Since it is an application that eliminates commercial boundaries and many procedures, the products bearing the environmental label are easily sold. Thus, a competitive environment is formed between the companies that have the environmental label and the other manufacturers. As a voluntary practice, this competition causes many companies to take steps that will leave behind many companies, and causes companies to want to produce products and services that comply with environmental label criteria.

Environmental Label Terms

Environmental Label In order to benefit from the application, a number of criteria must be applied to the product produced. Considering the ecological balance firstly, Environmental Label System considers the condition of being environment friendly in the products produced. This criterion, which is not limited to the product, must be environmentally friendly in every stage from the production stage to the consumer. It also stipulated that even the materials used in the packaging of the products should consist of materials that can be recycled and do not harm the ecological system.

The environmental label is currently applied to the 35 product and service. Some of these are those;

Office products

Electronic devices

Cleaning equipment

Building materials and furniture products

Garden tools and soil improvement products

Heating systems

Vacation rentals and hotels

Printing materials

In accordance with the 66 / 2010 / EC Regulation, separate requirements have been established for each product group in line with the criteria set by the EU Eco Label committees. During the accreditation phase, these criteria are taken into consideration and an environmental label license is issued for the product.

Eco-Label Works with programs such as EMAS. ISO 14000 is also included. It is easier for companies that work with these programs that are environmentally friendly and improve the quality of the process to receive Eco Labels. For example; each product has a chemical substance limit with a legal use limit. EMAS takes this limit into consideration and the production takes place within these limits. However, this limit is in lower limits in the application of Environmental Label. Since the companies using EMAS application are developing, they can meet the criteria of Environmental Labeling system in time.

The Environment Label logo gives the consumer confidence. Manufacturer companies develop themselves based on this. Although the logo is simple, it has many criteria behind it. Products and services that are at the best in terms of environmental sensitivity may be entitled to bear this label. The criteria for obtaining the Environmental Label were determined based on the European level and as a result of the interviews conducted by experts.

No product that complies with these criteria may receive an Environmental Label. After the necessary tests for the product or service and the preparation of the reports, the product is entitled to receive the Environmental Label as a result of the approval of the degree of conformity by the committees in charge. There is a certain application fee for receiving an eco-label. These fees vary according to the development level of the countries and the product and very minimum amounts apply.
